Bronze 642 is the alloy of choice when you require a strength and excellent corrosion resistance, but also an ease of machinability. 642 bronze has the highest machinability of any non-leaded bronze, it is also one of the lightest bronzes. Additionally, 642 bronze exhibits good fatigue and anti-galling strengths. Brazing is rated as fair, as are most forms of welding. Soldering and oxyacetylene welding are not recommended. This material is typically used to make bolts, gears, and valves.
